How to choose an electric kayak or inflatable

  • Built-in vs. add-on: kayaks with integrated motors are simple but cost more. Adding a trolling motor to a kayak or inflatable is cheaper and flexible.
  • Motor mount: inflatables need a transom or motor-mount kit. Check the maximum motor rating.
  • Weight capacity: leave room for the battery, which can add 25–60 lb.
